Monica Bellucci, who is currently starring in comedy Mafia Mamma, is in negotiations to join the group of brave names in Beetlejuice 2.
Warner Bros. is in full casting mode as the film hits cameras this month, with Tim Burton, who directed the original 1988 film, returning to the director’s chair.
Jenna Ortega leads the cast, while Michael Keaton reprises his role as the obnoxious ghost. Winona Ryder is also back, playing Ortega’s mother. Catherine O’Hara is also among the returnees, while Justin Theroux is a newcomer to the process.
While plot details are kept in the coffin, it is known that Bellucci will play Beetlejuice’s wife.
Warners announced Tuesday that the film will be released on September 6, 2024, taking over the date from Marvel’s Blade, which halted pre-production last week due to the writers’ strike.
Beetlejuice 2 is produced by Burton and Brad Pitt’s Plan B, among others.
Bellucci is internationally known for her Italian and French films such as Malèna and Brotherhood of the Wolf. In the US, she has appeared in productions ranging from The Matrix films to The Passion of the Christ to the James Bond film Spectre. She is currently starring opposite Toni Collette in Bleecker Street’s Mafia Mamma.
Bellucci is represented by CAA.
