The 66-year-old actor and filmmaker has released his first novel, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece, based on his own career.

In an interview with the BBC, the Forrest Gump star revealed that his novel features a cast of characters, including an overbearing and extremely obstructive male actor who disrupts and delays filming.

He told the BBC: “I myself have witnessed every one of those behavioral moments on a film set.”

“Not everyone looks good on a movie set every day,” he adds.

The actor continues, “I’ve had a rough few days trying to be a pro when my life fell apart in more ways than one and I had to be funny, charming and loving — and that’s the last thing on my mind.”

The ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ actor went on to talk about the ‘mortal sin in the movie industry’: being late.

“What can’t happen in film is that someone can’t mess with the timing, the length of the shoot, or the budget. You’d be surprised, he adds, how many people know they can get away with it, and are told they can get away with it, because they’re carrying the film on their shoulders. »

In the novel, he references actors who are “whiners, mental wrecks, alcoholics on the run, drug addicts on the run… and more than a few talent feuds.”

The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece was released on May 9, 2023.
