The cast for this new work from the director of The Decline of the American Empire and The Barbarian Invasions is impressive. The trailer released on Friday stars Sophie Lorain (in the role of the manager of a retirement home), Marie-Mai, Guylaine Tremblay, Denis Bouchard, Marcel Sabourin, Clémence Desrochers, Caroline Néron, René-Richard Cyr, Louis-José Houde, Yves, among others Jacques and Robert Lepage.

“Denys wanted to spoil himself and surround himself with actors he really likes,” the film’s producer Denise Robert told us when the cast of “Testament” was announced last December.

“He wanted to treat himself by surrounding himself with people he’d worked with before and others he really likes and admires.” He was very fortunate to be able to shoot his film with such a great crew.

Testament also marks the sixth collaboration between Denys Arcand and Rémy Girard, following The Crime of Ovide Plouffe, The Fall of the American Empire, Jesus of Montreal, The Barbarian Invasions and The Fall of the American Empire. .

However, this is the first time the actor has starred in an Arcand feature film since Les Invasions Barbares, for which the renowned Quebec filmmaker won an Oscar in 2004.

social criticism

The “Testament” synopsis released last December leads us to believe that Denys Arcand will deliver a scathing social critique as only he can. There we can read that the character represented by Rémy Girard is evolving in “an era of political correctness, identity evolving, protests, cultural scandals, militancy, media storms, and other disputes.”

Some of the lines heard in the trailer are also delicious. The manager of the retirement home (played by Sophie Lorain) affirms that “the Ministry of Health has decided that video games are superior to reading in stimulating brain activity in older people”.

“Testament” hits theaters on October 5th. TVA Films will distribute the feature film.
