DMZ HBO Max Trailer Rosario Dawson DC Comics Ava DuVernay

In a scene from the dystopian DMZ set in New York City, the Empire State Building is shown in ruins.

From the looks of it, it’s a big day for post-apocalyptic shows set in Manhattan. Just hours after news broke of a new Walking Dead show with that premise, the first trailer for DC’s upcoming HBO Max DMZ show has arrived. It stars Rosario Dawson as a mom who travels to the DMZ once known as New York to find her son. And it looks intense.

Based on the DC Comics series written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Riccardo Burchielli, DMZ will release all four episodes simultaneously on March 17th. In addition to Dawson, it stars Benjamin Bratt, Hong Li, Freddie Miyares, Jordan Preston Carter. , Venus Ariel. Check this.

The DMZ show was created and hosted by Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and produced by Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay. The action takes place at a time when America is divided by the second civil war; during the aftermath, a medic named Alma Ortega (Dawson) loses his son. She thinks he’s in Manhattan, which has been evacuated and turned into a DMZ. In order to find and save him, she decides to become a full Serpent Plissken and travel to the DMZ. Along the way, she runs into a crime boss, played by Benjamin Bratt, who is taking advantage of the situation.

And yes, in this trailer we see footage of the character dressed as Batman. So it looks like it’s set in some version of the DC Multiverse. But, as you can tell from the intense trailer, this is way off the mark. “DMZ offers an explosive playground that celebrates community resilience and the human spirit more than anything,” Patino said back in 2020, when the show was greenlit. “I can’t wait to welcome both die-hard comic book fans and new viewers to this intoxicating, exciting and inspiring world.”
