Not even Sony could escape the enormous hype surrounding Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Push Square

We reckon there’s no point beating around the figurative Hyrulian bush: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the biggest game on the planet, and it likely will remain so until a little superhero sequel called Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be out later in the year. Sony and the rest of the industry know this, and the platform owner has even confirmed the release on its website Twitter Account:

It’s not entirely uncommon for competing manufacturers to mention each other’s products, but obviously that’s rare and reserved for milestone releases like this one. In all honesty, I felt like the world of PlayStation was on a bit of a hiatus this week while Link sucked up pretty much all the oxygen in the industry.

To prove it, take a look at last week’s PS blog: there were about 12 posts made there, while the average is usually double that. Even the release schedule has been pretty muted: of course there’s no shortage of new games, but it feels like most publishers have decided to wait until Zelda is available to release their titles. After all, time and money are limited.

It would be interesting to see the PSN stats this weekend. Do you think the release of Tears of the Kingdom will have a noticeable impact on engagement, or do you assume everything will be business as usual on Sony’s servers? Someone, somewhere will have access to this information – and we reckon the chart will likely show a somewhat unusual drop this weekend, which is really fascinating!
