Aladdin Remake Star Sparks Backlash Over ‘The Little Mermaid’ Comments .com

Actor Mena Massoud A recent post on Twitter sparked some controversy, and the discourse appears to have led to his abandonment of the social media platform entirely. In 2019, Massoud played the title character in Aladdin, the live-action remake of the Disney animated film. The film was extremely successful at the box office, grossing more than $1 billion worldwide, including over $356 million domestically.

Next, Disney throws the dice The little mermaid, as the live-action remake of this film will hit theaters later this month. On Twitter, a post shared by The Hollywood Handle noted that “The Little Mermaid” is expected to gross $115 million domestically by its opening weekend, about $3 million more than Aladdin did in 2019. On his personal account Massoud responded, much like many had interpreted this as an insult to The Little Mermaid, suggesting it still wouldn’t ultimately make it into the billion-dollar club like its live-action remake did a few years ago did.

Massoud’s contribution stated: “Our film was unique in that the audience saw it several times. That’s the only way we’ve hit the billion dollar mark with our opening film. I suspect TLM won’t break the billion mark but will no doubt get a sequel.” .”

The tweet has since been deleted and Massoud’s account is no longer accessible, but images remain and can be seen on TMZ. It appears that Massoud has given up his Twitter account due to the backlash that has resulted from the publication of his tweet. Some fans of The Little Mermaid and her lead actor Halle Bailey have criticized Massoud for interfering and seemingly throwing shadows on The Little Mermaid with his prediction that unlike Aladdin, most moviegoers would not see the film a second time Mermaid” throws.

The Aladdin sequel may have fallen apart

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to speculate that Massoud’s frustration with Aladdin 2 may have played a part when commenting on a separate Disney live-action remake. There has been talk of making a sequel to Aladdin for years, but the project has perpetually stagnated in development hell. While director Guy Ritchie teased in February that ideas were still circulating, Massoud said the following month that the project was as good as dead.

“At this point it’s very unlikely,” Massoud wrote to a fan on Twitter at the time, asking if Aladdin 2 would ever happen.

The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26, 2023. Directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. Halle Bailey stars as Ariel. The cast also includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric and Javier Bardem as King Triton and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina. The voice actors for the animal characters in the film are Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
