Fisherman Scott Haraguchi was sailing off the coast of the Hawaiian island of O’ahu in the United States when he was surprised by a large tiger shark trying to rip off a piece of his kayak.
The animal pounced on the ship with such speed that Haraguchi described the sound as “a boat with no engine coming toward you.” The information comes from the British newspaper Chron.
Despite the shock, Haraguchi managed to push the shark away from him. The case happened this Friday the 12th and the moment was recorded as the fisherman used a GoPro camera while sailing around the island.

On the recordings, the man can be heard screaming as he is surprised by the animal. “I heard a sound like a boat without a motor coming my way and when I looked up I saw this big brown thing. My brain thought it was a turtle, but then I got hit by it and realized it was a tiger shark,” the fisherman told ABC affiliate KITV 4.
The fisherman also reported that he believed the shark mistook his kayak for a seal, as the man saw an injured seal minutes after the incident. Haraguchi stated that he was able to continue fishing after the attack.
“I realize that life is short and time on earth is short. So make the most of it,” he added.
