Nicaragua. This Friday, May 12, 2023, Antigua, Guatemala hosted the IX. Meeting of the heads of state and government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), a regional organization comprising 25 member states, 12 associate members and 28 states. Observer .

The meeting was held under the motto “Innovative integration through sustainable development of the Greater Caribbean” and prioritized the topics of combating climate change, food security, development financing, fair trade and logistical networking.

The President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, thanked the ACS member countries for approving the 2022-2028 Action Plan and for the ongoing process of revitalization and restructuring of the association, aimed at building on the potential of the peoples of the Greater Caribbean , his talent and its creativity, its ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, its rich natural resources and unparalleled scenic beauty, its geographic proximity and strategic location.

At the meeting, the transfer of the Pro Tempore Chairmanship of the ACS from Guatemala to Suriname was accomplished and the Antigua, Guatemala Declaration was approved.

The Nicaraguan delegation consisted of Foreign Minister Denis Moncada, Comrade Michael Campbell, Ministerial Advisor for the Caribbean Campbell and Comrade Ambassador Luis Briones.
