War in Ukraine: "The Russians have no shortage of grenades…" Zelenskyi’s army claims fresh advances in Bakhmout

Ukraine reports further advances near Bachmout.

Ukraine’s military said it continued to advance near the eastern city of Bakhmut on Wednesday, while Russia continued to deploy new units, including paratroopers.

The comments are the latest from Kiev over the past week, indicating that Russian forces have been pushed back after months of fighting in some areas around Bakhmut. “We are successfully conducting a defensive operation, we are conducting a counterattack and today our units penetrated parts of the Bachmout front by up to 500 meters,” military spokesman Serhi Cherevaty told Ukrainian television.

He said he saw no signs that Russian forces were running out of ammunition, contradicting statements by the leader of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, which is leading the attack on Bakhmout. “The enemy is trying to take the city at will, striking with all systems and calibres. There is no shortage of grenades,” the spokesman said. “They’re moving new units there (to Bakhmout), mostly paratroopers, to try and get an interim victory.”

Moscow initially did not comment on the spokesman’s statements. According to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces continue to fight to take control of western parts of Bachmout.

Portal could not verify the situation on the battlefield. Ukrainian officials said the advances around Bakhmut were not part of a broader counteroffensive that Kiev was planning to drive Russian forces out of its territory.
