Derek Chauvin on Wednesday appealed his conviction in the murder of George Floyd, arguing that the decision not to move the trial to another city deprived him of a fair trial.

Chauvin was convicted in April 2021 for the May 2020 killing of Floyd.

The former Minneapolis police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck during the arrest, although Floyd claimed he couldn’t breathe.

Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison in June 2021 and has been behind bars in Arizona ever since.

On Wednesday, Chauvin filed a complaint in the Minnesota Supreme Court, alleging that he was not afforded a fair trial.
