Diamond summer program: a premiere with four proposals

In addition to the reopening of its outdoor terrace, Le Diamant is presenting a summer program for the first time. A festive and burlesque cabaret for over 18s, a production that combines music, acrobatics and dance, an installation inspired by the Coney Island amusement park and a swing evening.

These four proposals are followed by a series of shows that will take place in 2023 and 2024.

We find, among others, “The Riopelle Project”, “The Ten Commandments of Dorothy Dix” with Julie Le Breton, “The Needles and Opium” with Olivier Normand in a role interpreted over the years by Robert Lepage and Marc Labrèche, and four fight nights following September 1, January 13, March 23, and May 11, 2024.

Australian collective Brief Boys will kick off the summer segment on June 29th, 30th and July 1st with a show called Dirty Laundry, which has been performing to sold-out audiences most around the world for the past 10 years. A burlesque and festive cabaret evening where the actors wash their dirty laundry with their families.

As a special guest, the drag queen Barbada will moderate this entertaining evening and bring a French-speaking component to this show from 18 years of age.

From June 29th to August 6th, the installation Dreamland (Terre de rêve) by the Quebec collective Théâtre Rude Ingénierie will be shown at the Lepage Beaulieu studio.

This free 25-minute show features a model island inspired by the mythical Brooklyn amusement park, the first in North America, from its inception to its demise.

Dance

On August 3rd, 4th and 5th, the company Nord Nord Est presents the show Après la nuit.

A show in which the three musicians of the group CHANCES, which mixes pop, electro and world music, are accompanied by a dozen acrobats and dancers who use choreography and aerial acrobatics.

On September 9th, Le Diamant’s main hall is transformed into a 1930s and 40s ballroom for an evening of swing dancing with an eight-piece orchestra and DJs. Spectators are entitled to an introductory event.

Autumn begins with Dorothy Dix’s The Ten Commandments. A piece for which Julie Le Breton won an interpretation prize in 2020-2021. This creation, which can be seen from October 5th to 7th, tells the story of a woman who obeyed the ten commandments of the American journalist Dorothy Dix, inspired by those of the Bible. This enabled him to find happiness.

Le Diamant presents Le Projet Riopelle, on show from October 19th to November 19th, in a version that changes and evolves over the performances.

“There were cuts and rewrites. The show is now four hours long,” he said. For the 28 performances, 65 percent of the tickets were sold.

The Life of Maria Callas

The tenor and multi-faceted man Marc Hervieux will direct the show in the creation “A voice at will”: Maria Callas, which focuses on the life of the great Greek singer.

Sophie Faucher will embody Maria Callas in words and Marc Hervieux slips into the skin of tenor Giuseppe Di Stefano, a great friend of the singer, who died at the age of 53. This show will air on September 7th, 8th and 9th.

From April 25th to 27th, the Théâtre de La Sentinelle presents M’appelle Mohammed Ali, a play that pays tribute to the legendary American boxer. Lyndz Dantiste, Nadine Jean, Fayolle Jean Jr., Anglesh Major, Maxime Mompérousse, Widemir Normil, Martin-David Peters, Rodley Pitt and Frank Sylvestre are part of the cast.
