G7 defends the “responsible” use of artificial intelligence

At the Hiroshima summit in Japan, the G7 leaders decided to set up a future “working group” to deal with the “responsible use” of artificial intelligence (AI) and the associated risks, including misinformation.

What happened

The working group announced this Saturday (20) will focus on the socalled generative AI: Programs capable of generating text, images, sound, video, etc.

Like ChatGPT, currently the most popular application, generative AI programs are booming worldwidebut at the same time caused deep concern in several circles.

The group will also look at ‘governance, the protection of intellectual property rights’. and the “responsible use” of these new technologies.

Another topic of discussion will be how to combat “information manipulation” and “disinformation”. through the same tools.

“We recommend relevant ministers to launch the Hiroshima Process on AI through a working group set up in cooperation with international organizations, with the aim of discussing generative AI by the end of the year.”
