Tim Allen takes another swipe at the box office bomb Lightyear, which saw the star replaced by Chris Evans

Tim Allen has taken another dig at Chris Evans reprising his iconic role as Buzz Lightyear in 2022’s ‘dizzying’ box office bomb Lightyear.

The 69-year-old Home Improvement actor, who has voiced Buzz in four Toy Story films since the mid-1990s, has been sensationally replaced by Evans, 41, for the standalone film – amid speculation that his support of the Republican Party and Conservatives alike Politics influenced the decision.

In an exclusive chat with , Allen – who returns as Buzz for Toy Story 5 – admitted he had no idea what the “weird” Lightyear origin story was about.

Allen said, “They were two completely different films.” And Chris did a great job in a supporting role. It was very confusing for all of us as for the toy story movie, what was real?

“I’m a screenwriter. So if Buzz is real, Chris’ version of it was really confusing to me as an actor.”

Chris’ character in the original image was not quite the character Allen played. In Toy Story, Buzz was just a toy that thought he was an astronaut.

Lightyear was supposed to be the movie the toy is based on. In the Lightyear storyline, Buzz is a space ranger stranded on a hostile planet trying to find his way home. The character is a bit smarter than the toy Buzz.

Lightyear was a flop on its first weekend in cinemas: the new spin-off film “Toy Story” grossed just $51.7 million in North America – and lost the studio an estimated $106 million.

The film was also pulled from 14 countries because it contained a gay kissing scene, which Disney didn’t want to remove.

But those involved with the Lightyear film said it was a creative decision.

“Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear’s toy,” Lightyear producer Galyn Susman explained, according to Yahoo.

“We didn’t do a Toy Story movie. “We’re doing Buzz Lightyear’s movie.”

Allen has now been rehired to play Lightyear in the upcoming Toy Story 5. The news comes as Bob Iger has returned to the helm of Disney after a stint doing Toy Story spin-offs — including Lightyear last year — rather than continuing the main storyline.

Allen updated fans on the film’s progress, saying, “Toy Story 5 was set for a while ago, but we just couldn’t get into it.” Then Disney announced it about two months ago.

“So I’ve become friends with all the people in Toy Story, especially Tom Hanks.” [who plays cowboy Woody]. That’s why I’m blessed to have these friends in my life. i love this character. i love this story That’s why I’m always waiting to see the script.’

Allen revealed that Disney was secretly planning a fifth film. “They made that up. I think it’s getting close and I said unless it could have been done really well, I know the crew didn’t want to do it.

“So neither of us could mention any of that. Even when the entire side film “Buzz” or “Lightyear” came out, it was all in play. So it was kind of weird. That’s all. ‘

The four Toy Story films starring Allen and Hanks have grossed Disney over $3 billion. When asked about his game five salary, Allen laughed, “Man. It will just add more fun to the project.

Allen, who is considered one of America’s greatest comedic talents thanks to the Disney franchise, the Santa Clause movies and the hit Home Improvement TV series, also admitted his life could be turned into a biopic.

The plot would probably focus on how Allen rose from being a drug dealer in his youth. Over forty years ago, Allen was in prison for dealing drugs as a cocaine dealer.

Allen described himself as “half citizen, half hooligan” after he was caught in possession of 650 grams of cocaine by Michigan police officers. He avoided a possible life sentence by working with authorities to expose a major Midwest drug ring.

When asked if his own life would become a biopic, Allen teased, “It’s funny you should ask, because there are some scripts that are in the making, some scripts that are lying around and have elements.” Otherwise, there you go , Man. Love.’

Allen spoke before attending the 16th Annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic in Los Angeles.

Back in June, Allen criticized underperforming spin-off film Toy Story – during an interview with Extra.

Although he said he personally enjoyed the story, Allen has criticized the film’s lack of continuity with the popular Toy Story franchise and his being dropped from the project by the “new team” at the helm.

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem related to the toy,” Allen said. “It has nothing to do with Buzz.”

“We talked about it many years ago … but the people who did the first four films aren’t these.” It’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first films.

“I stayed out of it.”

Allen went on to say that he didn’t originally expect the film to be animated like previous Toy Story films, but that it would in fact be live-action.

He said, “Without Woody, there really isn’t a Toy Story buzz.” I’m not sure what the idea is – I’m a plot guy. It seems to be a great adventure story, and I see it’s not a great adventure story.

Allen played Buzz Lightyear opposite Tom Hanks, who provided the voice of the cowboy Woody in the 1995 Pixar film Toy Story, which grossed $373 million at the box office and has since become one of the most popular animated films of all time.

He then went on to take on the role in several sequel films and animated shorts, and only voiced the animated astro toy in Toy Story 4 in 2019.

Many Toy Story fans had previously speculated whether Tim’s replacement with Evans in the prequel was a politically motivated decision based on Allen’s support of the Republican Party and conservative politics.

Allen was quoted as saying he liked “that Donald Trump was pissing people off,” and previously described himself as “politically kind of an anarchist.”

When asked about Jimmy Kimmel’s attendance at Trump’s inauguration in 2017, he said, “You get beat up if you don’t believe what everyone believes.”

“It’s like Germany in the 1930s.” I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, “You know what we think is right,” I say, “I might have a problem with that.” “I’m a comedian and I like acting on both sides.”

He added, “I literally don’t preach anything.” What I’ve done is I just haven’t joined what I call the “we culture.” I don’t tell anyone how to live. I do not like it.’

Allen also told Fox that those who disparage Trump in Hollywood are hypocrites, adding, “What I find strange in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully.”

Allen’s disappearance had drawn criticism of Disney Pixar because some believe it was a superficial, politically motivated suppression of an instantly recognizable voice.

Then, earlier this month, Patricia Heaton slammed the “stupid” Disney bosses for replacing Tim with Chris.

On June 14, the 64-year-old actress took to Twitter to defend her 69-year-old girlfriend, who voiced Buzz in the four original Pixar films between 1995 and 2019.

She claimed they made a “big mistake” in recasting their pal, even saying they “completely castrated this iconic, beloved character.”

In two tweets, the Everyone Loves Raymond star began, “I saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is that Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake by not casting my buddy Tim Allen in the role that he has created, the role that he owns.” .

“Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely neuter this iconic, beloved character?

She added, “Okay, the current Buzz Lightyear movie is an origin story – but the reason the character became so popular is because of what @ofctimallen created.”

“Why remove the one element that makes us want to see #stupidHollywooddecisions.”

For millions of film fans, Tim will always be associated with Buzz Lightyear, the not-too-bright astronaut wannabe he portrayed in the 1995 Pixar animated blockbuster.

But Captain America star Chris admitted he was a little intimidated by taking on the role of buzz announcer for Lightyear.

When it came to delivering Buzz’s famous catchphrase, “To infinity and beyond,” the Hollywood star said he simply copied Tim’s version.

According to The Daily Telegraph, he said: “I’m doing Tim and I don’t care.”

“It makes you so nervous to hear yourself out loud — it almost feels wrong.” It’s like trying to say “Bond, James Bond” and you’re like, “No, no, no — that is for someone else.”

“So you definitely want to use it as a template… And he did such a good job that I’d be a fool not to take over some of the decisions.” But at the same time you have to leave a kind of fresh trail in the snow. “

Evans also recently re-explained the film’s plot, nearly two years after a tweet he originally posted was ridiculed by fans.

At the time, he wrote, “And to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy.” “This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear the toy is based on.”
