Russian State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Pyotr Alexandrovich has died

State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Pyotr Aleksandrovich Kucherenko died on Saturday (20) at the age of 46, according to an official statement from the ministry.

Petr Kucherenko fell ill on the plane on which the Russian delegation was returning from a business trip to Cuba.

The plane landed in the Russian city of Mineralnye Vody, where he received medical treatment and died.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Peter Alexandrovich,” the statement said.

A graduate of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia with a degree in law, the Deputy Minister headed various public structures and was involved in the implementation of publicstate partnership projects in the social and educational spheres.

Between 2012 and 2014 he was Chief of Staff of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation, Legal and Judicial Affairs and Civil Society Development in the country.

Between 2014 and 2020, Kucherenko served as chief of staff of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and StateBuilding of the Federation Council.

In 2020 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. He also became foreign minister in 2021.

Kucherenko possessed the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” II degree and held the title of Acting State Councilor of the Russian Federation 2nd class.

The Russian foreign minister leaves behind his wife and son.
