Miley Cyrus Can’t Do Another Arena Tour Because They’re “So Isolating”: “There’s No Connection.” “There’s No Safety”

Miley Cyrus is known for her live performances (especially her great covers), but don’t expect to see the pop star on an arena tour ever again. In a recent interview with British Vogue, Cyrus said she was uncomfortable performing in such large venues and would rather perform in smaller, more intimate spaces for friends and family.

“It’s been a minute,” Cyrus said of touring. “After the last one [headline arena] Show that I did it [in 2014], I saw it more as a question. And I can not. Not only that it’s not possible because it’s your ability, but also my wish. Do I want to live my life for the pleasure or fulfillment of others other than my own?”

“As if singing to hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really what I love,” she continued. “There is no connection. There is no security. It’s not natural either. It’s so isolating because when you’re in front of 100,000 people, you’re alone.”

Cyrus’ last arena show was the Bangerz Tour in 2015. The tour lasted 78 shows, stopping at venues such as the O2 Arena in London and the Barclays Center in New York City. Some fans thought Cyrus might be planning a new arena tour to support her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, which was released in March. Based on her recent comments, that seems unlikely, although Cyrus may be touring other venues such as Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

“Endless Summer Vacation” features Cyrus’ hit single “Flowers,” which at 112 days is the fastest track to reach 1 billion streams in Spotify history.

“The reception of ‘Flowers’ has been absolutely amazing,” producer Michael Pollack told Variety earlier this year in light of the single’s blockbuster success. “It’s not lost on me how much of a unicorn this record is and how seldom in your career are you a part of something like that.”
