A 43-year-old driver was killed in a violent collision on Sunday night in Labelle in the Hautes-Laurentides department.
Around 2:30 a.m., emergency services were called to proceed to Route 117 due to a two-vehicle collision.
According to preliminary information, a northbound vehicle was violently struck by another car traveling at high speed behind it.
The force of the impact caused the first vehicle to mow down the central concrete wall while the offending vehicle landed in a wooded area along the road.
The driver of the latter suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, a spokeswoman for Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said.
The two people who were in the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the SQ.
An accident reconstructionist and an investigator were dispatched to the scene of the accident to analyze the scene of the accident and attempt to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.
Highway 117 was closed in both directions for most of the night to allow investigators to do their work.
“Traffic is now only possible alternately there, and that for much of the morning,” added the SQ.
