Returning from the long holiday has been difficult for a family from Candiac, who were stuck in customs for almost four hours on Monday due to the large number of travelers trying to return home.

Jasmine Duquette, her wife, and their two children were returning from Ogunquit, Maine, when they encountered a massive traffic jam at the Lacolle 223 border crossing near Lake Champlain.

Although the Canada Border Services Agency’s website said there were little or no expectations, Candiac’s family was in a line of several dozen vehicles at around 6:20 p.m., just after 10 p.m.

“Although their 8-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter are regulars on the long journey, they found the time long ago,” Jasmine Duquette told TVA Nouvelles.

During this painful traffic jam, the family noticed that several other travelers were getting impatient with the slow traffic.

“People went out and walked around […] It worked and the children ran in the street,” says Ms Duquette, noting the presence of many children and infants in the neighboring cars.

On Facebook, another Quebecer, Guillaume Grenier, shared a photo of waiting at customs in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle. In his publication, he expressed his dismay.
