Drank 7 bottles of alcohol poisoning
Shocking footage shows internet star Wang Moufeng, also known as ‘Brother Sanqian’, who has died aged 34 after his fateful binge.
He allegedly drank massive amounts of booze in a live competition on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, and paid for it with his life, according to the British BBC.
Fatal alcoholic poisoning
Just 12 hours after the broadcast, Wang was found dead in his apartment. It is believed that he died of fatal alcohol poisoning. His funeral has already taken place while his family is still in shock over his sudden loss. A close friend told Shangyou News, “When they found him, he was already dead. There was no chance of emergency treatment.”
Drank 7 bottles of liquor
The sad incident once again shows how risky and dangerous alcohol consumption can be in China. During his broadcast, Wang drank Baijiu liquor, which contains up to 60% alcohol. Baijiu is usually served in small glasses, but onlookers say Wang drank at least seven full bottles.
To give you an idea of the scale, a bottle of “Jack Daniel’s” whiskey has an alcohol content of 45%. Therefore, Wang’s drink was definitely beyond reason.
Deadly competition for virtual gifts
But what was the trigger for this fateful competition? Wang participated in so-called “one-on-one battles,” in which influencers mobilize their own community to receive virtual gifts funded with real money. Whoever accumulates the most points in the shortest time wins. Unfortunately, “Brother Sanqian” lost three rounds and had to drink as punishment.
It is important to note that alcohol is strictly prohibited in Douyin. Wang has been banned several times in the past for violating this rule. But he always managed to come back to the platform with new user accounts. At the time of his tragic death, around 44,000 people followed him in Douyin.
Unfortunately, Wang’s fate is not unique. Time and again, Chinese influencers die in his work. A similar case happened to streamer Yu Hailong in 2021, who was known to overeat. This dangerous trend from South Korea is called the Mok-Bang.
Also in 2018, live streamer “Dafei” died, who drank alcohol and cooking oil in front of cameras.
The sad reality is that these influencers often take big risks to entertain their fans.
