The Turkish presidential election is entering its final phase abroad. Eligible voters were able to vote at polling stations in the run-off between incumbent Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu through Wednesday night. The results will be announced after the vote in Turkey on May 28. Around 108,000 Turkish citizens are entitled to vote in Austria. You can vote since Saturday.
Erdogan is the favorite in the poll. In the first round on May 14, he was some 4.5 percentage points ahead of CHP’s Kilicdaroglu, but he lost the required absolute majority. Overseas Turks voted in the first poll with 57.70 percent for the incumbent. Kilicdaroglu won nearly 40% of the vote. According to preliminary data, almost 72% of voters in Austria voted for Erdogan. The holder fared particularly well in an international comparison.
On Wednesday, Erdogan was satisfied with the result away from home in the first round and with the participation so far in the second. He continued to call on his supporters to go to the polls.
Turkey will vote on May 28. Only then will the results from abroad be released.
