Rita Wilson wants you to know that those embarrassing photos that have been floating around showing what appears to be a tense moment on Tuesday’s Cannes red carpet with husband Tom Hanks are not what they seem.

On Wednesday, Wilson posted a message to her Instagram Stories detailing what happened amid speculation that the captured moment was heated.

“It’s called ‘I can’t hear you’.” People scream. What did you say? Where should we go?” Wilson wrote. She continued, “But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try. We had a great time.”

She also encouraged her followers to check out director Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” which stars Hanks and was the film premiere they witnessed taking the photos.

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has debunked online rumors about viral photos or videos that captured what appeared to be a tense moment.

There was, of course, internet sensation “#Spitgate,” the term was born online in September 2022 when viral video footage from the Venice Film Festival showed singer Harry Styles making a move that led some to believe he had it on his face spat. Don’t Worry Darling co-star Chris Pine.

Pine and the film’s director and co-star Olivia Wilde have each spoken out since the incident, clarifying that Styles did not in fact spit on Pine. Even Styles himself joked about the incident during one of his concerts.

Also, let’s not forget the Ben Affleck memes that originated at the 2023 Grammy Awards and went viral when the “Air” actor looked miserable as he sat next to his wife Jennifer Lopez.

Affleck publicly addressed the speculation in March by saying he actually had a “good time” at the show, and attributed the quiet conversation they saw to a simple “husband and wife thing.” .

So we’re guessing the lesson here is this: while it’s said that a picture is worth a thousand words, it probably doesn’t say what you think it does.
