Australia: 95 year old man dies after being abused by police for roaming nursing home with knife

Clare Nowland, the 95-year-old woman with dementia who was tasered by Australian police on May 17 while she was in a care home, has died. This was announced by New South Wales Police, adding that the elderly woman died in hospital at 7pm local time (11am Italian time). The woman was stopped by a 33-year-old police officer on Wednesday night while walking with her own walker and a kitchen knife. After the two collided, the woman fell and hit her head, causing a brain hemorrhage. However, according to a second, more recent reconstruction of the incident, the convalescent home staff called the police and reported the presence of a woman armed with a knife. The police therefore asked the lady to drop the gun, but she continued to attack her, albeit “at a slow pace”, as she was forced to use a walker to get around. Meanwhile, the officer who verbally abused Ms Nowland is now facing assault charges and will appear in court in early July for causing grievous bodily harm to the woman. He has been suspended from duty pending investigations by the relevant local authorities.
