  • Frantic tech advisers could be heard in the background as presenter David Sacks explained that there were so many people listening that the internet was melting

Ron DeSantis was mocked online for attempting to launch his presidential campaign on Twitter, with technical failures preventing discussion with Elon Musk.

The launch was scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.

But Twitter couldn’t handle the traffic and the servers kept crashing.

The event was initially delayed by several minutes, and when it began, the audio frequently cut off.

Host David Sacks said so many people tried to listen that it “melted the internet”.

At 6:30 p.m., the audio was gone and DeSantis still couldn’t get a word out.

The internet erupted in mockery.

“Biggest campaign launch failure in history,” one tweeted. “Well done DeSantis. Presented by Elon L. Musk.’
