‘This link works’: Biden mocks Ron DeSantis’ chaotic launch of Twitter Spaces 2024 with donation page – and Trump says ‘My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger and works’

  • The conversation about DeSantis’ campaign launch has been plagued by glitches
  • Biden’s camp tweeted a fundraising link while the conversation was suspended
  • “We melt the servers”

President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign tried to capitalize on the tech nightmare launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign on Twitter by directing people to donate to his own campaign.

Biden’s campaign used the same platform to solicit donations at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday night, while Twitter chief Elon Musk and his team detailed the chaotic opening conversation while it was underway.

‘I’m sorry for that. “We’re kinda melting the servers,” read the first lines of the chat on Twitter Spaces, moderated by tech entrepreneur David Sacks and joined by Musk.

“This link works,” Biden wrote on the platform. Attached to the tweet was a picture of a smiling Biden and his Vice President, Kamala Harris, and a donation page.

On the page, visitors could click a link to donate amounts ranging from $10 to $2,000 — in a campaign in which Biden is attempting to surpass his own fundraising of $1 billion for his 2020 efforts.

The Biden tweet was released before it was known that the online conversation would even continue.

DeSantis’ main GOP rival, former President Donald Trump, joined in ridiculing the mishap.

“Rob,” my Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and works (TRUTH!), yours doesn’t! (According to my conversation with Kim Jung Un from North Korea, who will soon become my boyfriend!).’

Trump had previously spoken of “Rob DeSanctimonious” in a morning tweet for unknown reasons. He was referring to the time he exchanged angry threats with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un before the two finally met during his presidency.

People who tried to surrender heard a long silence, punctuated by comments that related not to DeSantis’ attempt to become the third-youngest president in U.S. history, but to the blunder.

“Let’s see – here we go… Keeps crashing, doesn’t it?” “I think we have a tremendous number of people online as well,” the quip read.

When the chat finally got going, Sacks said, “Thank you for putting up with these technical issues, we’re definitely breaking new ground here.” To my knowledge, no major presidential candidate has ever promoted his candidacy on social like this media announced.”

DeSantis’ own team soon got involved in the action, trying to monetize their own technical difficulties.

“It seems like with so much excitement we broke the internet… While you wait, donate NOW,” @TeamDeSantis tweeted.

However, a user who clicked the rondestantis.com link at 6:45 p.m. found that it didn’t work, showing only a black screen with a tiny image in the middle.
