Gladiator bosses ditch skimpy women’s outfits ahead of legendary show’s return

The skimpy female outfits from the original Gladiators series have been abandoned for the reboot.

The racy crop top and pants worn by the stars on the 1992 game show were replaced with a sports jersey instead.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Those flimsy costumes were considered acceptable when the show started, but today they’re probably a little too revealing.”

“The new ones won’t be too stuffy as they will highlight the incredible physiques of the female stars.”

Previously, Suzanne Cox, known as Vogue on the ITV series, revealed she had to use butt glue to keep her outfit from slipping.

Two new gladiators joined the program earlier this month ahead of the show’s highly anticipated return to BBC and iPlayer later this year.

Nitro and Diamond were unveiled at BBC Breakfast as the newest faces of the cast, showing they’re up for the challenge of champions.

The duo will duel and compete alongside a host of other Superfit contestants in one of the most iconic and exciting sports entertainment game shows.

Nitro, real name Harry Aikines Aryeetey, has had a variety of professional athletic achievements, including as a Commonwealth sprinter, while Diamond, real name Livi Sheldon, boasts a career in bodybuilding.

So let’s meet the new Gladiators…

Nitro is a Team GB Sprinter named Harry Aikines Aryeetey. Harry, Commonwealth and World gold medalist in sprinting, was given the moniker Nitro because of his lightning fast speed and energy ball personality.

The athlete has been competing at the highest level in the UK since he was young. After becoming the first athlete to win gold medals in both the 100 and 200 meters at the World Youth Championships, he won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award in 2005 at the age of 17.

After graduating in sports science, Livi took up bodybuilding and became a UK finalist at England Toned Figure.

Her passion for the sport began at the age of 6 when she played soccer for a boys soccer team. She eventually transferred to a girls’ team, where she captained for many years, and subsequently played for the Worcester City women’s team.

Don’t be fooled by Diamond’s radiant beauty though, she is unbreakable and super strong.

When she joined the Gladiators, Livi said, “Growing up, I was always teased for being taller than everyone else.”

“Now I can show everyone that being unique is your superpower.” I can’t wait to enter the arena and compete as a Diamond against the competition.

Livi – who regularly shares fitness tips on social media – is dating male lifestyle trainer Grant Gibbs.
