Canada approves appointment of former Bolsonaro minister as ambassador

The country contacted the Brazilian embassy to say that it had accepted the agreement

Former Jair Bolsonaro (PL) foreign minister Carlos França has been appointed by Canada as Brazil’s next ambassador to the country. He will be based in the capital, Ottawa. It is a task of great importance.

The official report was sent to the Brazilian embassy in the country this Wednesday (May 24, 2023). In the text he grants the agrément, a French word meaning “agreement”. In diplomatic circles it is used to indicate that a country has accepted the appointment of the other country as ambassador.

In the next few days, Itamaraty will formalize the acceptance. He will then address the request for questioning in the Senate to the Civil Chamber. After Saturday you can go to the country on acceptance.

The appointment was expected by the Power360 in January of this year. The request for consent was only sent out in April and the response has now arrived.

Carlos França was Bolsonaro’s minister from April 2021 to December 2022. He replaced the theatrical Ernesto Araújo. He led a smooth leadership far removed from his predecessor’s conflicts with other countries such as China.

He is a career diplomat and has been with Itamaraty since 1991. He started in the administration department. In 1997 he attended the presidency ceremony of Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s (PSDB) government.

He then served in the following countries: USA, Paraguay and Bolivia.

In 2011 he returned to the ceremonial in the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT). In 2015 he graduated from Itamaraty and started working in the private sector. He was Director of Corporate Affairs and Strategic Business at AG SA of the Andrade Gutierrez Group.

In 2017, returning to his diplomatic career, he presided over the State Department ceremony and served as deputy director of the Presidency ceremony. He took charge of the post under Jair Bolsonaro in 2019.
