Madeleine McCann: Police hope to find remains after tipping

The Madeleine case seems to have opened a new chapter as authorities hope to find the girl’s remains 16 years after her disappearance. Two days ago, Portuguese police conducted searches at the Arade Dam in the Algarve region of Portugal. The place is frequented by German Christian Brückner, who is serving a sentence in Kiel for sexually abusing children in Portuguese cities.

According to CNN Portugal, the work is likely to take at least another day due to the rains in the region, which have hampered operations. According to the Chron, the decision to search the site was taken by authorities in Portugal and Germany after a “hot” tip from a German whistleblower.

The search site is 50 kilometers from the scene of the child’s disappearance but was visited frequently by Brueckner, a suspect in the case. He denies any involvement in the girl’s disappearance but has been linked to Madeleine since 2020.

This is the first major operation since 2014 when agents conducted excavations in the area. Experienced divers are used to search for clues in the dam and the police are clearing the surrounding vegetation.

British girl Madeleine McCann disappeared while on vacation with her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007. The German police assume that she was murdered.
