An application to break the isolation of seniors – TVA Nouvelles

The CHSLD de la Mitis has been using the Famileo application for a month to break the isolation of its residents, an idea that is on everyone’s lips among their loved ones.

“All families can post small notes, photos, what is happening, which ultimately must be of interest to their loved ones,” explains the daughter of a resident who uses the application, Johanne Lévesque.

Each week, the CHSLD prints a personalized gazette for each resident with multiple photos and messages from loved ones.

“For those who have trouble accessing the internet or something, it’s easier with a little newspaper,” said Sylvie Migneault, also the daughter of a CHSLD resident.

“My mother has dementia, so speaking is obviously more or less easy,” added Johanne Lévesque. But [avec le journal], I saw her reading, I saw her lips move, her eyes lit up, then she stopped at photos. It makes for precious memories.”

Once you subscribe to the app, up to 60 family members and loved ones can send photos, news and kind words, making the app more personal unlike other social media.

It is also possible to get in touch with the facility that houses the relative concerned.

“The comments are excellent, both families and residents really appreciate this little paper,” said Edith Thibault, executive director of the Mitis Health Foundation. I think the little ones will like it!

Currently, the CHSLD de la Mitis is the only establishment in Bas-Saint-Laurent that offers this application.

Residents and their families would like it to be offered quickly in other facilities in the country so that others can also benefit from it.
