Lane Hutson is helping keep the Americans’ record perfect

Montreal Canadiens junior Lane Hutson scored another great goal in Finland on Tuesday as the Americans beat Sweden 4-3 in overtime.

The United States finished the preliminary round of the Ice Hockey World Championship with seven wins and no losses. They finished first in Group A ahead of the Swedes.

Hutson scored the third goal for his team. In the second third, the defender stole the puck from an opponent and turned it into the attacking zone. He finished his maneuver with an excellent wrist shot at the top of the net.

After the goal from the player selected by CH in the second round in 2022, the Americans were 3-1 ahead. However, Sweden had not yet said the last word and scored twice in the third period. Leo Carlsson and Timothy Liljegren scored the goals.

It was Dylan Samberg who gave the USA the win in overtime. Forgotten in the slot, the back of the Winnipeg Jets didn’t let his chance slip.

The USA meet the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals, while Latvia climbed into third place in Group B after beating Switzerland 4-3 in extra time.

The Swiss formation had not yet lost in this tournament.

Rudolf’s Balcers played heroes in overtime. He capitalized on a power play and beat goalkeeper Joren van Pottelberghe with a one-timer shot. It was the third point in that duel for whoever briefly wore the Tampa Bay Lightning colors after providing assists at the nets of teammates Rodrigo Abols and Kaspars Daugavins. Latvia’s other goalscorer was Ralfs Freibergs, while Switzerland’s counterattacks came from the posts of Kevin Fiala, Marco Miranda and Andres Ambuhl.

Finland ends strong

In another Group A game, Finland defeated Denmark 7-1.

Other winners’ scorers included Atte Ohtamaa, Kasperi Kapanen, Ville Pokka, Juho Lammikko, Marko Anttila and Nikolas Matinpalo.

Nikolaj Ehlers was the only Dane to defeat goalkeeper Emil Larmi.

Finland will now meet Canada in the quarter-finals, while Denmark will have to settle for fifth place in their group.
