The SQ ends up in Kanesatake –

Sûreté du Québec police landed on the Kanesatake Mohawk reservation Thursday morning to conduct searches as part of an investigation into economic crimes, including one at the offices of the Band Council.

Several police officers were there in the morning to confiscate various pieces of evidence.

The Sûreté du Québec said it was unable to provide any further information about the nature of the searches because the “arrest warrants were sealed.”

However, the Kanesatake Band Council posted a message on its Facebook page to inform its population of the presence of police officers on its territory at the Band Council and the Health Center.

“These officers are mostly white-collar crime investigators who are executing search warrants in conjunction with other support units. (…) The Grand Chief and General Manager of the Health Center were made aware of the incident this morning and are cooperating with investigators,” the Band Council wrote.

Residents in the sector have also been informed that the premises affected by the searches will not be open to the public for the duration of the police operation.

These searches were unrelated to the controversial Kanesatake illegal landfill file.
