“The 883s were provincial Tamarri in a world full of phenomena”: Max Pezzali and the 470,000 Tour…

Not a radical, chic, cool attitude. It’s one of the secrets of Max Pezzali’s success, who won his greatest challenge (“and rebirth”) by returning live and selling 470,000 tickets for the 2022-2023 live tour, which debuted on September 2 with a big party reached its climax. at the Circus Maximus in Rome

Max Pezzali He was certainly one of the undisputed protagonists of the Italian live season 2022-2023 with over 30 sold out dates in the arenas, the double date that sold out last July at San Siro Stadium, selling a total of 470,000 tickets. Dizzying numbers for an artist today. To conclude the celebrations of the 30th career anniversary, a unique show was announced at the Campidoglio in Rome: “The Circus Max“, which will take place at Circus Maximus in Rome Saturday September 2nd. And there is a bet at another sold-out 60,000-seat stadium in the area. The reduction was 10,000 guns from the 70,000 since the hillsides on the edge of the Circus Maximus were closed to public access that year. A real story of rebirth for Pezzali thanks to the support of Vivo Concerti and the new management (after the sensational break with historians Claudio Cecchetto and Pierpaolo Peroni) founded by Max Brigante And James Fish.

What was the success of your live recording year?
I think it all depended on the songs, on the simplicity of the nostalgia for a life that was more analogue than digital. In short, we commemorate a time when everything was simpler. When we arrived on the 883, we entered an era of phenomena where we were just the Tamarri of the province. Today there are artists who write like gods, we had eighth grade lyrics, but they’re real and simple and that’s why they’ve stayed with the times.

Why don’t new songs stick in the collective memory, even from five years ago?
We’ve gotten to a point where we’re driven by the speed of social media and always have high levels of dopamine. The problem is memory and the amount of information we absorb. There are now about 30 new songs coming out every Friday, which can be cool for the discography, but less so for those who listen to or make music. We find it difficult to process the emotional outburst and there is less and less time to listen.

What will Il Circo Max be like and what does it mean for you?
First of all how important it is for the music to play in one of the most famous places in Rome in the world and then I like the idea of sharing the stage, in a kind of commemorative train, the journey with some friends who will come : from Paola and Chiara and Article 31, with whom we have indeed traveled a route together, to the new generations such as Lazza, Sangiovanni, Colapesce Dimartino and the special set of Deejay Time with Albertino, Fargetta, Molella and Prezioso.

Will there be more surprises?
Yes, there will be more guests, but we will announce them later.

Will the other half of 883, Mauro Repetto, join you on stage again?
We organize ourselves. He has another project that I don’t want to say anything about at the moment. But I think in the end he will make it.

Milan and Rome were two important stations in your life. Advantages and disadvantages?
In Milan, if you don’t reply to a WhatsApp within 30 seconds, the rockets explode and you feel guilty. In Rome, on the other hand, one realizes that at a certain point there are things that cannot be solved and therefore, as they say in these cases: “esticazzi!”.

And what will be after the September event?
After Circus Maximus you can also stop doing everything else (laughs; editor’s note). I don’t know at the moment. I’m experiencing this rebirth because that’s what it is, I’m also enjoying this live atmosphere that made me want to write. During Covid I saw colleagues starting to write and compose music but I had moved away from music. Through the concerts I rediscovered the desire to experiment and play.

Is a CD on the way?
Not at the moment. Also because it is not necessary to have a record to make live music.

Could there be a Sanremo 2024 Festival?
No, because for this experience you need to be structured, have solid shoulders and a strong recording project. I don’t like the idea of just throwing myself into a race without a song to convince me.
