TAMPERE, Finland — The United States defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Ice Hockey World Championships on Thursday.

The Americans came through the tournament well, claiming their eighth straight win.

“It was a tough game and I’m really proud of our team and how we stuck to our game plan,” said US head coach David Quinn. “There’s a real selflessness about our team and that was evident from the start.”

Matt Coronato scored a goal from the left circle in the early stages, when the Czechs managed just two shots on target, which was deflected off the skate of a Czech defender and into the net.
