Priyanka Chopra opens up about ‘dehumanizing moment’ in earlier film

Priyanka Chopra has opened up about a “dehumanizing moment” she experienced on a previous film set in a new interview with The Zoe Project, published Tuesday.

The 40-year-old Citadel actress, who recently wowed in a scarlet ensemble at the Bulgari party in Venice, was talking about her career in Bollywood and her exit from the industry when she recalled a disturbing experience.

“It could have been 2002 or 2003,” she explained, explaining that she was cast to play an undercover agent in the project.

The mother-of-one added, “I’m undercover, I’m seducing the guy — that’s obviously what girls do when they’re undercover.” But I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off a piece of clothing [at a time].’

Chopra then revealed, “I wanted to put on more layers.” The filmmaker said, “No, I need to see her underwear. Why else does anyone come to see this film?”

The star explained to the outlet, “He didn’t tell me.” He told the stylist in front of me. It was such a dehumanizing moment.

“It was the feeling, ‘I am nothing but the way I can be used. My art isn’t important, what I contribute isn’t important,” she continued.

Just two days after the incident, Priyanka announced that she had left the film. However, at her father’s urging, the actress paid for the production out of her own pocket to offset funds already spent.

She stated that the main reason for abandoning the project was that she “didn’t get to watch it every day,” citing the director.

Chopra previously opened up about her exit from Bollywood during an appearance on Dan Shepherd’s “Armchair Expert” podcast in March of this year.

The Miss World 2000 winner said, “I was cornered in the industry.” There were people who didn’t cast me for certain reasons. I’ve had arguments with people. I’m not good at playing this game, so I was kind of tired of politics and said I needed a break.”

Her passion for music gave her the “opportunity” to move to America. “This music thing gave me the opportunity to travel to another part of the world without craving for the movies I didn’t want to see but to hassle certain clubs and cliques of people.”

“It would require submission, and I had been working on it for a long time by that point, so I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it.” When that music thing came up, I was like, ‘Damn, I’m going to America. “‘

Speaking to The Zoe Report, however, Priyanka explained that her music career didn’t last long. “I just felt like I sounded artificial and didn’t come from a really authentic place.” That’s the best music, that’s the music I love to listen to [to].’

Though she struggled when she first moved to America and started her career in the industry, the star began to land acting roles in Hollywood, including on the hit series Quantico, which aired on ABC from 2015-2019.

In 2018, she linked the night with Nick Jonas, and the couple welcomed daughter Malti as their surrogate in January 2022. Her little girl initially spent 100 days in the NICU but was able to go home just before Mother’s Day.

Speaking about her marriage to the former Disney channel star, the Bulgari ambassador said: “It’s not therapy, you don’t sit down and talk about your past.” But we have a lot in common that we have in common.”

The former Bollywood star gushed that they support each other and work hard. “We’re hardworking, we’re not afraid of hard work, we’re not afraid of change.” I’m someone who wants to learn something I don’t know. And Nick too.’

During a chat with Grazia earlier this month, Priyanka also opened up about her career so far, but admitted she doesn’t think of herself as someone who’s “made it”.

“My job is extremely inconsistent. I could get canceled tomorrow and people could decide I’m not the guy of the month. “I’ve never been the type of person who thinks I’ve made it.”

She added, “There were so many times I wanted to quit.” I was sick of the rejection. “I felt dismissed and patronized on set, like people didn’t think I could do my job even with Bollywood being the size of it.”

“Hustler”: Speaking about her marriage to Nick Jonas, Priyanka said, “We’re hustlers, we’re not afraid of hard work, we’re not afraid of change.” I’m someone who wants to learn, what I do not know. And so is Nick. The couple were seen in Rome in April

However, her hard work has paid off and she recently landed a starring role in the Amazon Prime series Citadel, which premiered last month in April. She was cast alongside other stars including Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci and Ashleigh Cummings.

The spy thriller series was officially renewed for a second season by Amazon on Thursday, Deadline reported. The beauty also jumped into the romance genre, starring in ‘Love Again’ with Outlander actor Sam Heughan.

Regarding future roles she hopes to take on, the mother-of-one admitted, “I’m hoping to find roles that give me an opportunity to lose myself and actually become my character, because that’s what I do.”

Her husband Nick is also busy and is expected to join siblings Joe and Kevin on the Jonas Brothers tour, which begins later this summer in August.
