Barbie trailer: Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are arrested

The second official trailer for the upcoming Barbie live-action movie was released on Thursday – revealing how the titular doll and her big screen counterpart Ken will find themselves in deep trouble.

In the latest clip, Margot Robbie’s Barbie is tasked with venturing into the “real world” to restore her former state of happiness.

The Mattel character, originally slated to be portrayed by Gal Gadot, then runs afoul of the law and becomes the target of a hunt led by a toy company CEO (played by Will Ferrell).

The trailer began with Barbie taking off her high-heeled shoes and floating effortlessly from the roof of her pink house to her similarly colored car.

When Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, asks if he can visit her later, she states that the only thing she had planned for the night was “a huge, huge party with all the Barbies and a planned choreography and a custom song.”

During the party, the doll said, “It’s the best day ever!” “So is yesterday and tomorrow and every day from now to eternity,” although the dance stops abruptly when she asked, “Do you ever think about dying ?

Barbie then paid a visit to Weird Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon, who instructed her to go to the “real world” and highlighted the differences between Barbieland and the outside world by contrasting a high-heeled shoe with a Birkenstock sandal.

Robbie’s character quickly chose the first option, though Weird Barbie insisted that she make another choice, declaring, “You have to want to know.” Okay? Do it again.’

While driving through the desert into the real world, Barbie was surprised by Ken, who revealed that he would be joining her on the journey.

The couple eventually ended up in Venice Beach, California, where they were stared at by various locals before one slapped Barbie on the butt, to which she responded by slapping him in the face.

The two were then sent to prison before a toy company employee, played by America Ferrera, realized that Barbie had successfully made it into the real world.

The company’s CEO then declared, “If this comes to light, it could mean very strange things for our world.” That would be catastrophic!’

Barbie continued to flee from her captors before the CEO angrily declared, “No one rests until that doll is back in a box!”

After Barbie led the CEO on a chase around the toy company’s factory, a single tear rolled down her cheek before saying, “Ideas live forever.”

The trailer ended after Ken went to a hospital and asked to have an appendectomy, but was refused by a doctor.

Development on Barbie began in the late 2000s and characters such as Diablo Cody and Amy Schumer were included at various points in the project.

Robbie signed on to star the film in 2019, and in the same year Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach signed on as screenwriters.

The former of the couple was officially appointed project leader in July 2021.

Physical production of the feature film began in England last March and reshoots only took place last month.

Robbie, who also serves as one of the feature’s producers, recently spoke to Vogue and discussed pitching the project to Mattel.

The actress recalled, “We obviously want to honor the 60-year legacy of this brand.” But we have to acknowledge that there are a lot of people who aren’t Barbie fans.”
