United States President Joe Biden said this Thursday, the 25th, that his team and that of United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy continue to negotiate the country’s stalled debt ceiling and are making progress. Biden said that defaulting is not an option and that discussions between Democrats and Republicans are about the budget, not the possibility of a default.
“The economy is growing. The only way forward is a bipartisan agreement and I believe we will reach an agreement that protects the workers of this country.”

The head of state also said his vision and McCarthy’s were very different on how the budget should be designed. “I don’t think the entire burden of further efforts to organize the tax front should fall on working middle class Americans. Republicans disagree,” he said.
The president said he has presented a proposal that cuts spending by more than $1 trillion and freezes spending for the next two years. This complements the previously presented project of nearly $3 trillion in deficit reduction.
