Colin Salmon reveals the decision to join EastEnders was guided by a desire to be close to his ‘sick’ wife

Colin Salmon has revealed that his decision to take on a role in Eastenders was based on a desire to be close to his ‘sick’ wife.

The 60-year-old star, best known for playing MI6 adviser Charles Robinson in three 007 films, admitted he needed work that would not be “far from home” because of his wife of 35 years , the artist Fiona Hawthorne, suffers from a lung disease.

Speaking to The Mirror, the father-of-four explained that anyone who doubted his decision to join the BBC soap opera was dead wrong.

“I was born at Mothers’ Hospital in Clapton Pond decades ago and I’m an East Ender. It was a big show for us growing up.” “Everyone I’ve told I’m doing this has really loved it.”

Colin, who plays George Knight, will move into The Square as Elaine Peacock’s handsome new husband, along with his two daughters, Anna and Gina.

Linda (Kellie Bright) is furious to learn that George and his family have moved from Marbella to help run the Queen Vic.

In the upcoming episodes, George Knight rocks Walford with his daughters Anna and Gina in tow.

They arrive at The Vic and Linda is stunned when George introduces himself as Elaine’s boyfriend and tells her that they have traveled from Marbella to help run The Vic.

Back at the Vic, George promises Linda that he won’t cause any trouble because he just wants to have a great life with Elaine and the girls.

Colin will play Elaine’s handsome new boyfriend, George, who is described as “a charming old-school scoundrel and gentleman in love with his two daughters.”

Colin is a permanent fixture on screens, having starred in three James Bond films and the Resident Evil series, as well as General Zod in the Syfy series Krypton.

Gina is George’s eldest daughter and will be moving into the Queen Vic with her father, sister and Elaine.
