Murder of Gabby Petito: Brian Laudrie’s mother is said to have written him a ‘burning after opening’ letter

Gabby Petito’s parents now have a copy of the letter Brian Laundrie’s mother wrote to her son, in which she spoke of a shovel and the burial of a body, CNN reports.

Lawyers for both sides argued Wednesday in a court in Sarasota County, Fla., over the letter’s relevance to the lawsuit Gabby Petito’s parents filed against Brian Laundrie’s parents.

The envelope containing the letter, which reads ‘burn after opening’, was found in Brian Laundrie’s backpack when his remains were discovered in October 2021.

Recall that the disappearance of influencer Gabby Petito sparked national investigations and made headlines around the world. Her then-boyfriend Brian Laudrie had returned from a trip without her.

The young woman’s remains were found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest in September 2021 and her death was ruled a homicide by strangulation.

Before taking his own life, Brian Laundrie wrote in a notebook that he was responsible for Gabby’s death, according to the FBI. His body was found the following month on a reservation not far from his parents’ home in North Port, Florida.

According to CNN, Gabby Petito’s parents are suing Brian Laundrie’s over emotional distress from their daughter’s death.

They allege the Laundrie family refused to call or text them during their daughter’s disappearance.

On the other hand, the Laundrie family feels they owe the Petitos nothing.
