The first thing you need to do is cut the shells to the size you want. Often the containers are very large and it is more practical to divide them into groups of 12, 6 or even 4 rooms, allowing for smaller and more manageable beds. Then lightly dampen the containers with an atomizer and water. However, avoid overwetting as this can affect stability.
After wetting, add the substrate you want to start your bed with. Do not compact the soil, but press it down lightly so that every space in the bed is well filled with substrate. With the handle of a spoon, make a small space in the center of each space in the bed and place a seed or two to germinate. Finally, cover it with some soil and moisten it a little to start growing your plants.
