- At least two people were killed and thirty wounded when Russian forces shelled a clinic in Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine) on Friday. France condemned a “crime against humanity” for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law”.
- Russia on Friday reported Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast on the Ukraine-Russia border for the fifth straight dayand a drone attack in Krasnodar, 200 kilometers from Crimea.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used US Senator Lindsey Graham’s visit to Kiev on Friday to ask for long-range weapons. The Republican-elect said he would encourage his Senate peers and the Biden administration to equip Kiev with the ATACMS weapons system with a range of about 300 kilometers, which Washington is currently refusing to supply.
- Vladimir Putin said Friday he was “completely surprised” by the anti-Kremlin demonstrations that took place in Georgia last week. Dozens of Georgians had demonstrated outside an airport in the capital, Tbilisi, when a Russian plane landed in this former Soviet republic for the first time since 2019. Russia waged a brief but bloody war against Georgia in 2008, and anti-Russian sentiment runs deep there.
