The local government of her hometown of Brownsville, Tennessee, is currently planning a memorial for Tina Turner.

The city’s mayor, Bill Rawls Jr., recently spoke to TMZ and said he intends to erect a statue of the late hitmaker in her memory and has already received support from local leaders.

The statue of Turner, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 83, would likely stand in Brownsville Heritage Park, not far from Carver High School, where she attended as a teenager.

Mayor Rawls also issued a statement to the outlet detailing the significance the project would have for Brownsville residents.

“When Tina took the stage, it was hers. “We want this statue to represent that passion,” he said.

He then briefly addressed the impact the late hitmaker had on residents of her hometown.

“Tina was an inspiration to the whole world … She showed the people of Brownsville that no matter where you start, you have your story of where you end up,” he said.

Brownsville is also home to the Tina Turner Museum, dedicated to her life and work.

Mayor Rawls did not provide a timeline or expected installation date for the monument.

Turner died Wednesday at her home near Zurich, Switzerland.

The actress, who was struggling with various illnesses at the time of her death, died of natural causes.

The hitmaker’s publicist, Bernard Doherty, issued a statement expressing that the singer’s influence on the music industry would be long-lasting.

“With her, the world is losing a music legend and role model,” he said of The Independent.

Turner spoke to The Guardian just a month before her death and discussed how she would like to be remembered.

She explained that she wanted her fans to look back on her as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” As a woman who showed other women that it’s okay to strive for success on your own.”

The late songwriter also opened up about how she’s aging and staying optimistic in her later years.

“It’s the whole adventure of life and I embrace and accept each day with whatever it brings,” she said.
