Known for his queer lyrics, the gay musician is a strong supporter of LGBTQ rights.

Why is Target facing backlash?

Target began releasing items from its LGBT Pride collection in preparation for Pride month in June.

Items in the collection include rainbow-colored rompers for infants and children, and swimsuits with “pocket-friendly construction” and “extra crotch coverage.”

After seeing the collection, the public compared it to the backlash Bud Light faced after his partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Many critics took to social media to express their protest at the new collection, with some calling it “inappropriate” and “disturbing”.

SiriusXM podcast host Megyn Kelly and other commenters like Tomi Lahren have warned that Target is at risk of losing business.

Target CEO Brian Cornell dismissed the social media furore, saying products are good for business and “right for society.”

The Minneapolis-based retailer told NBC News on May 23 that the company had offered “a selection of products to celebrate Pride Month” for more than a decade.
