Quebec offers free flu vaccine for everyone

The Minister of Health announces that the flu vaccine will also be available free of charge to the entire population during the next vaccination campaign in autumn.

The purpose of expanding this measure is to contribute to the efforts of recent months to prevent people from overloading services on the front lines.

Christian Dubé made this decision with his team after consulting the health authorities. The minister talks about a concrete preventive measure to avoid complications for patients and care teams.

It is possible To with Clic Santé to receive your dose for free. Some vaccination centers will offer the vaccine, as many pharmacies and private clinics that have vaccinated the vaccine will continue to do so this fall.

The estimated cost of the intervention is $23.6 million, but the true total cost will not be known until after the vaccine campaign is complete.

People aged 75 and older, those who are immunocompromised or those with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women are most at risk of developing flu-related complications.

Family members with a child under the age of 6 months, medical staff and caregivers are currently given priority.

On November 25, 2022, Quebec opened free vaccination for all to avoid emergency room overcrowding.

So last year’s exception is back and needs to be checked again to see if the free program will be available to everyone in fall 2024.

By taking action earlier this year, the government is preventing some people from paying the costs without receiving a refund, as was the case last fall. A total of 1,838,471 Quebecers were vaccinated in the last vaccination season.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the flu causes about 6,000 hospitalizations and 300 deaths each year.
