Globo told police on May 28 that it had learned that former employee Bruno de Souza Rodrigues, suspected of involvement in the assassination of Jeff Machado, falsely offered to participate in company programs for money . Because of this, he was reportedly fired for good cause in 2018.
Unbeknownst to the broadcaster, Bruno made bogus offers to the actors, demanding money in return for the services. Jeff Machado himself believed his friend’s “proposal” and even paid Rodrigues around R$20,000 in exchange for a role.

Jeff’s mother, Maria das Dores, described some of these issues. “He paid BRL 12,000, then BRL 2,000 because he had to shoot, and then BRL 2,000 again because I don’t know what… You have a dream that’s so strong inside you it’s like you’re going blind for reality.”
After Jeff’s disappearance, his accounts continued to be overwhelmed. The actor’s cards were found a month before Machado’s disappearance with Bruno, who is also said to have rented the house where Jeff’s body was found.
