Accompanied on a stretcher on Sunday, Kamloops Blazers defenseman Kyle Masters averted the worst

Backed on a stretcher during Sunday’s game between his Kamloops Blazers and the Peterborough Petes, defenseman Kyle Masters avoided the worst.

Blazers head coach Shaun Clouston confirmed his defenseman was discharged from the hospital late Sunday night. However, he will miss the rest of the tournament due to his lower body injury.

Masters was hit by striker Brennan Othmann late in the third period on Sunday.

“He came to see the boys this morning. He was a little bruised but the boys were happy to see him. That’s good news, even if it’s difficult for me. He was traded here for a Memorial Cup shot and now his tournament has faltered. Kyle is an important player for our team and he plays important minutes. “Other players have to take over,” said the coach, who still can’t explain why no penalty was imposed in the game.
