Manoir Lafontaine was eventually sold for $18.8 million

The Manoir Lafontaine, symbol of the housing crisis as its residents faced renovation work, was officially sold to the Interloge organization on Tuesday to convert 91 apartments into affordable housing.

Located just yards from Lafontaine Park in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood, Hillpark sold the building for $18,810,000.

This is a drop from the original retail price. In fact, the building was listed for $28 million last August.

In addition to the title deeds, “all investigations carried out into the condition of the building and the need for renovation” were also transferred to the organization.

Last December, Interloge offered to purchase the 14-storey building in order to get affordable housing there despite the housing crisis.

The City of Montreal had a hand in the matter by releasing $5.6 million in April 2023.

The ten households still housed there can stay, even if they have to leave their homes temporarily during the work.

Remember, the tenants have been fighting in court after receiving a temporary eviction notice for work in March 2021.

The Manoir Lafontaine was built as a hotel for Expo 67. It was then converted into a residential building.
