Kyle Dubas on the Penguins: It’s far from safe

The ambiguity seems to have settled in the hiring file for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ new general manager, who would have gone with Plan B.

On Tuesday afternoon, local radio station 105.9 reported The Daily Faceoff reporter Frank Seravalli, however, later claimed otherwise, telling Sportsnet that Dubas actually refused to join the Penguins.

The same hockey pundit added that the 37-year-old is awaiting the outcome of the Ottawa Senators’ sale process, another organization he has been linked to in recent speculation. For the time being, however, Pierre Dorion will remain in charge of the federal capital. Also, the Penguins’ owners have resumed talks with other candidates vying to fill the position previously held by Ron Hextall.

A few days ago, Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman reported that Pittsburgh was waiting for a response from Dubas, who left the Leafs earlier this month after serving as GM since 2018. He had visited the Penguins’ facilities, all in the presence of Captain Sidney Crosby.

Hextall was fired at the end of the season, the first time he had not made the playoffs in western Pennsylvania in 16 years.
