In recent years, the Uber and Uber Eats apps have grown in popularity, generating an economic impact of US$1.6 billion in Quebec in 2022.
At least that’s what the latest data from Uber shows.
The economic impact can be explained, among other things, by the revenue generated by drivers and deliverers, as well as the revenue that dealers have generated from the application.
The company is also seeing an increase in the number of drivers and delivery staff. In the final quarter of 2022, applications recorded “the highest number of registrations in Quebec in several years.”
As the cost of living continues to rise, the desire for extra income is also the top motivation for Uber drivers and drivers (66%), as 71% of them have another source of income. Additionally, Uber is popular because it offers schedule flexibility, a key benefit for 93% of Quebec delivery drivers and drivers.
Uber Eats: not just catering
As more people use the Uber Eats app to order meals, grocery delivery (55%) and pet food (28%) are growing in popularity.
With an additional $201 million in revenue, restaurateurs have also benefited from the platform, which has seen many consumers try new places.
“A survey of Quebecers shows that 66% of consumers have ordered from a delivery app at a restaurant they’ve never been to,” Uber said in a release.
