Severe thunderstorm warnings or warnings are in effect in several areas of the province after the heat. The city of Mirabel in the Laurentians experienced a severe hail and torrential rain episode.

At 15:12 Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the Saint-Eustache and Vaudreuil sectors. Part of Mirabel and the Basses-Laurentides were also affected.

“Environment Canada meteorologists are monitoring a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong gusts, nickel-sized hail and torrential rain,” the agency said on its website.

A netizen sent TVA Nouvelles images of a violent hailstorm that hit Mirabel, in the Saint-Augustin sector. The noise caused by the hail is noticeable.

The passage of the storm caused the temperature at Montreal-Mirabel International Airport to drop nearly 10 degrees.

At 3pm the reported temperature was 21.6 degrees Celsius compared to 30 degrees Celsius an hour earlier.

There is also a severe thunderstorm warning for residents of the Outaouais, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Montreal, Montérégie, Laval, Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec regions.

“Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms, which can produce strong gusts, large hail and heavy rain this afternoon and early evening,” Environment Canada said.
