The aircraft, which is a Cessna, is registered with Encore Motors, a Floridabased company. The company’s owner, John Rumpel, told The New York Times that the plane was carrying his daughter; the granddaughter, two years old; and the child’s nanny.
According to The Washington Post, the victims are:
- Adina Azarian, daughter of John Rumpel’s owner;
- Aria Azarian, Adina’s two and a half year old daughter;
- The pilot, identified as Jeff Hefner;
- And Aria’s nanny, whose name has not yet been revealed.

According to the Washington Post, Adina was adopted by Rumpel after he lost his only biological daughter in an accident at sea.

According to The New York Times, Rumpel, who is also a pilot, said he had little information about the circumstances of the accident. He also said emotionally, according to the newspaper, that if the plane had lost pressure, “everyone would have fallen asleep and would never wake up.”

What happened?
A boom in fighter jet pursuits could be heard in several regions of Virginia
The plane crashed after entering Washington DC airspace Sunday (4) and being pursued by US warplanes.
Supersonic pursuit using F16 fighter jets began after the plane’s pilot failed to respond to calls from the US military.
According to US authorities, the plane took off from Elizabethton Airport in Tennessee and was scheduled to land at Long Island MacArthur Airport in New York. The distance is about 1000 km.
