What day are you most likely to have a heart attack?

Serious heart attacks can happen on any occasion but are more likely on Mondays, according to an Irish study Chron.

Doctors from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and the Royal College of Surgeons analyzed data from around 10,500 patients across Ireland and a further 3,400 in Northern Ireland to come to this conclusion.

The patients in question were hospitalized between 2013 and 2018 for acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the most dangerous category of heart attacks.

However, the researchers found that the number of STEMI was higher at the beginning of the week and especially on Monday.

Without being able to confirm this beyond a reasonable doubt, the scientists suspect that the increase in stress levels from returning to work may be questionable.

The lead researcher, cardiologist Jack Laffan, says the phenomenon of the “Monday heart attack” can be seen across the West.

“We know heart attacks are more common in winter and early morning,” says Dr. Laffan.
