Blizzard Entertainment is currently preparing two expansions that will strengthen the story of Diablo IV over the next few years.
During an interview with American media Kinda Funny Games about the future of Diablo IVRod Fergusson from BlizzardEntertainment stated that two expansions are already in development to complement the game experience in Sanctuary:
As I speak to you, we have started the main game and are finishing the first season. We are also working on the second season and the first expansion. Finally, a second expansion is also in preparation.
Fans of the famous Hack’n Slash will therefore expect new content in the coming years, and Blizzard Entertainment sees Diablo IV as a game with a future. They want to ensure that the game retains players and plan to achieve this by releasing both seasons with various new features and new expansions that add both new locations and original quests.
No date yet for Diablo IV expansions
Players are not expected to see an expansion for Diablo IV until mid-2024 at the earliest. Previous games in the Blizzard Entertainment series have always been characterized by a significant delay between release and DLC release. So, after the release of Diablo II, Blizzard waited a whole year before releasing the Lords of Destruction expansion. With Diablo III, Blizzard made fans wait almost two years before releasing the Reaper of Souls expansion. It is therefore likely that fans will have to wait a while before discovering a possible expansion for Diablo IV. Additionally, with the game adopting a seasonal model, it’s not certain the content and Battle Passes will be enough to keep them busy for several months.
